About the Georgia Strait Community Map
Introduction
This online map acts as a directory, networking tool, public forum and data storage. The unique potential of this map is that it allows users to learn and share, and to literally see the relationships that connect our resources, our concerns and the love of our home.
In this guide you will find information regarding ways the Georgia Strait Community Map is useful and information for the basic usage of the mapping website including homepage functions, map features, legend, mapped sites, and icons.
The map itself is a Google powered system called Geobrowser. Much like a Google Map, it uses customized layers to display information on satellite images. Each site that is added to the map is categorized into themes and are represented by customized Green Map and Google icons. When opened, each mapped site contains a description and location of the site, photographs, videos and links to more information. The geobrowser allows you to tailor the map to view certain topics and topic combinations, by selecting layers on the legend.
